A dental crown is used to restore and rebuild a damaged, broken or weakened tooth. A crown caps a tooth in order to protect the health of the natural tooth and improve the appearance and function.
A crown is often used after root canal treatment or when a natural tooth has a large cavity. A ceramic, artificial crown is natural in appearance and strengthens the underlying tooth.
We will invite you to the practice to assess your suitability for a dental crown and discuss types of crown available to you.
Dental crowns require 2-3 trips to the practice. During your first appointment, the dentist will prepare the tooth in order to create a base for the crown. The dentist will note the shade of the adjacent teeth to create the best possible match for the crown. A temporary crown is fitted whilst you wait for your follow up appointment.
Once your crown has been created at the dental laboratory, we will invite you back to the practice for the final fitting.
A dental crown is used for a broken, decayed or damaged tooth.
There is a number of available dental crowns made of different materials. To discover which crown is best for you, please talk to your dentist.
This depends on the type of material used. Typically, a crown lasts between 7 to 10 years.
