Catching What's Easy to Miss on Your Own

Professional dental assessments in Blandford Forum catch far more than the eye can see. Many issues develop quietly, without pain or any obvious sign, which is exactly why a check-up from a dentist matters — spotting problems early, before they turn into something bigger, more uncomfortable, or more involved to treat.

Caught Early Means Treated Simply

Many dental problems — including tooth decay, gum disease, and even oral cancer — develop gradually, often with few signs in the early stages. By the time discomfort or visible changes appear, treatment is often more taxing than it would have been if caught sooner. Regular examinations mean small issues stay small, simple, and easy to resolve.
At Alaska House Dental Practice, regular examinations are an opportunity to assess your full oral health picture — not just your teeth. We look at your gums, the soft tissues, your bite, any existing restorations, and the surrounding jawbone where appropriate, giving you a comprehensive overview of your oral health and a clear understanding of anything that may warrant attention.

Understanding a Dental Examination

A dental examination at Alaska House Dental Practice begins with a review of your medical history and any changes since your last visit — because overall health and medications can have a direct bearing on oral health. We then carry out a methodical assessment of each tooth, the gum tissues, the bite, and the soft tissues of the mouth including the tongue, floor of the mouth, and lips.
Where appropriate, X-rays are taken to examine areas not visible to the naked eye — including between teeth and beneath the gumline. An oral cancer screening is also incorporated into every routine examination. At the end of the appointment, we share our findings clearly, explain any areas of concern, and discuss the best course of action — ensuring you leave with a full understanding of your current oral health.

The Right Candidate

You might benefit from a dental examination in Blandford Forum, if any of the following apply:

Importance of Regular Dental Examination

There are several important reasons to attend routine dental assessments, including:

Catching problems early saves complexity

Identifying decay, gum changes, or early lesions at a routine examination means treatment is simpler, faster, and far less disruptive than it would be if the same issues were left to develop undetected over time.

Oral cancer screening at every visit

Every examination at Alaska House Dental Practice includes a thorough oral cancer screening — a potentially life-saving check that takes only moments to perform but can have profound importance for patient health.

A complete picture of oral health

We assess gum health, tooth condition, bite stability, existing restorations, and soft tissues — giving you a genuinely comprehensive review rather than a surface-level look at a handful of individual teeth.

Professional, personalised advice

Examinations are not just diagnostic — they are an opportunity to receive tailored guidance on your home care routine, diet choices, and any habits that may be affecting your oral health in ways you may not be fully aware of.

Building a long-term health record

Regular attendance creates a detailed record of your oral health over time, allowing clinicians to track changes, identify trends, and make better-informed decisions about your care at every stage of life.

Peace of mind between visits

Knowing your mouth has been professionally assessed and given a clean bill of health — or knowing that any concerns are being managed — provides genuine reassurance until your next scheduled appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are short answers to the questions we hear frequently from our patients about this treatment.

How often should I attend for a dental examination?
Frequency is based on your individual oral health needs and risk profile. Some patients benefit from six-monthly examinations; others may attend annually. Your dentist will recommend the interval most appropriate for your specific circumstances.
Not necessarily. X-rays are taken when clinically indicated — for example, to assess areas between teeth, check bone levels, or investigate a specific concern. The frequency of X-rays is determined by your individual clinical needs and history.
If anything is identified, we explain the finding clearly and discuss the most appropriate next steps with you. In most cases, straightforward issues can be addressed at a subsequent appointment with minimal disruption to your routine.

Your Treatment Journey

Each patient’s experience is different, but this is what you can expect while undergoing treatment at Alaska House Dental Practice.

We review your medical and dental history, discuss any concerns you have noticed, and carry out a comprehensive examination of your teeth, gums, soft tissues, bite, and any existing restorations present.
Where X-rays are needed, they are taken and reviewed; findings are discussed clearly with you, and a personalised care plan is presented covering any recommended treatment and your next examination interval.
We provide tailored oral health advice based on our findings, schedule your next examination, and remain readily available to address any questions or concerns that arise between your appointments at any time.

I honestly can’t thank Alex enough. He completely transformed my smile and I’m so happy with the results. From the moment I walked in, he made me feel comfortable, relaxed, and cared for. His attention to detail and talent are amazing, and you can tell he really takes pride in his work. My smile looks so natural and I’ve had so many compliments already. For the first time in a long time, I feel truly confident smiling. Couldn’t recommend Alex more highly. A++++++

Appointments nearly always on time, or within 10 minutes. Super friendly staff. Great to always see the same dentist, and dental Hygienist each time, rather than someone different. Very happy with the service and care at Alaska house

I haven't been to a dentist in years for probably same reasons as to why others haven't & the thought literally ran shivers down my spine. I can honestly say that at every visit I've had so far they have all put me at ease each time. Amit & today Nicole are both fantastic, thorough & professional. You only get one set of gnashers it's definitely worth digging into your pockets. Look after your teeth and they will look after you.
